TIPS AND TRICKS:
So you’ve got your board and are itching out get out there and take it for a spin? Have a look here first, it’ll be fun!
First timers:
- When you first get on the board get a feel for it before you turn it on, lean forward to turn right and lean back to turn left.
- If you don’t know whether you’re regular or goofy footed (the way you stand on the deck) have a look
here
- When you’ve turned it on get off the board turn it on its back and pull the trigger slowly, this will give you an idea of
how the acceleration works, push the trigger away from you to watch how the brake works.
- Get on the board and SLOWLY squeeze the trigger, if you pull it all the way instantly you’ll end up on your back and looking very,
very silly.
- Once you’re moving around remember to keep your weight on your front foot when accelerating and on your back when braking.
Advanced tips:
- When riding keep your eyesight 5-10 feet in front of you, DO NOT watch your feet, or you will fall over. This will
keep you aware of any potential obstacles or people.
- Keep your weight balanced in the middle of the board when not accelerating or braking, this will keep you in position to
quickly switch your weight in the event of an unexpected need to brake or accelerate.
- Keep your knees bent at all times
- When riding up hills, carve left and right to reduce strain on the battery.
- Do not exceed the range of the board, you do not want to have to lug your board home because you wanted to go push
it as far as possible. They are heavy.
Tricks:
Sharp turn – For sharp turns you will need to bend you knees lowering yourself as low to the board as possible, grab the board on the side with your free hand and lean right back, this will result in a much shaper turn the normal, extra points if your bum slides on the tarmac.
Hang five – This is probably the simplest of all the tricks, when your riding your board and have some space in front of you, cross step your feet until you’re hanging all 5 toes of one foot over the nose of the board. This is useful to do to practice your balance for the Hang ten. You will find this trick easier at lower speeds.
Hang ten – Similar to the hang five, the hang ten is hanging all ten toes over the board, when its done well it looks bizarre as your board is seemingly propelling you through town with you looking like the maiden on a ship. If you like that kind of thing.. To do it, cross step your feet over each other until you are facing outwards at the nose of the board and are hanging all ten toes over the edge. Keep your weight on your heels to stop the board tipping over.
Hang heel – The reverse of the hang ten, cross step back and hang both heels over the tail of the board.
Powerslide – Get your speed up to about 15-20KPH, bend your knees low and grab the side of the board with your free hand. Shift your weight onto your front foot and take it off your back foot. Turn the board to the left (if your regular, right if you’re goofy footed) and push the tail out. This should result in a spectacular wheel spinning stop. This trick is dangerous and can damage the board, if you break the board while doing this trick Sonicskateobards.com LTD will not cover the damages.
Li turn – For this turn you must bend your knees right down to the board, grab the side of your board with your free hand (your left hand if you’re regular, right hand if you’re goofy footed) and lift one leg (your right leg if you’re regular, left if you’re goofy) off the board, face the free leg straight out, away from the board. Do all this while leaning back and balancing on the one leg still on the board, while turning the board round and you’ve just completed the Li turn.
Safety:
At all times riders should wear at least, but not limited to:
- Helmet
- Knee pads
- Wrist guards
- Elbow pads
